Human trafficking is an age old phonomenon that predates several generations of people, and is traceable to the era of slavery. Trading in human beings is ongoing and has since manifested in differnet forms from crude export of human beings to packaging an disguise. The Human being has been the subject of various forms of brutal activity, violence and heinous commercial activity. The trade is incentivised and driven by human greed, insatiability, yearning for wealth and crass cruelty.
In Africa, the trade has metamorphosed, and assumed many names akin to the varied uses to which the trafficed human being is put. The uses to which the humans are put include the following but not limited to prostitution, slave labour, child labour, etc. Human Trafficking as it is also called involves the active conivance of the country of origin, transit and destination. It is therefore important that affected countries work towards the development of strategies for combating this resurging phenomenon that plagues Africa and victim countries thereby destroying its productive population.
What remains more frustrating is the fact that proceeds from this trade can indeed be integrated into the financial sectors of several n ational economies as legal money. This makes it an imperartive to address the issue. Since the linkages between these form of crime and money laundry can be clearly established, serious effort must be made to effectively checkmate its expansion in the 21st century.
